Episode 10 Overview: Fix What Happens After the Advertising Works

Your advertising may be doing its job. It creates interest, sends homeowners to Google, brings visitors to your website, and makes your phone ring.

But advertising does not create a customer by itself.

If prospects find old reviews, reach voicemail, or visit a website that cannot answer their questions, they are asked to wait. Many will continue searching and contact a competitor.

In Episode 10 of Always On AI, Bob Frazier explains the three Opportunity Conversion Gaps that can quietly waste an advertising investment. He also introduces the AI Sales Development Agent—a digital sales team member designed to answer questions, qualify new opportunities, schedule appointments, and prepare better opportunities for the human sales team.

Before You Buy More Advertising, Fix What Happens Next

It’s Saturday evening.

A homeowner is sitting at the kitchen table looking through a local home improvement magazine.

She sees a beautiful advertisement for a company that designs and installs custom kitchens.

The advertisement works.

It catches her attention. It creates interest. It gives her a reason to take the next step.

But the advertisement has not created a customer yet and the homeowner has next step options.

She can search for the company online.

She can visit the company's website.

She can call the advertised phone number.

Each option can have consequences for the business.

If the reviews are several months old and create doubt, the wait for more confidence begins.

If the call is answered by voicemail, leave a message and wait is the option.

If the website has beautiful pictures, but the only way to ask a question is to complete a form and wait.

Then her three options all end with a wait

The advertisement did its job three different times.

It caused her to search. It made the phone ring. It brought her to the website.

But at every step, the prospect's only option was to wait.

Interested prospects do not always wait. Most keep searching.

Welcome

Welcome to Always On AI, the podcast for business owners, entrepreneurs and leaders who refuse to be left behind in the 24/7 Customer Responsive economy.

I’m your host, Bob Frazier, founder and CEO of Digital WorkForce 360.

Today, we are going back to the foundation.

Before you think about AI tools, software or another advertising campaign, we need to understand how customer expectations have changed.

We will look at what happens after advertising creates interest, why waiting has become dangerous and what it really means to make a business 24/7 Customer Responsive.

These are foundational truths for today's local advertisers.

Who This Episode Is For

Before we go further, let me explain exactly who this episode is for.

This episode was created for local businesses that are advertising to generate new projects, have a sales team working qualified opportunities, and currently rely on voicemail for overflow and after-hours call handling.

Businesses could include kitchen and bathroom remodelers, window and door companies, flooring businesses, pool builders, roofing and siding companies, closet companies, outdoor living specialists, landscape designers and other businesses serving homeowners.

Your business may offer an in-home estimate, a design consultation, a showroom visit or a scheduled appointment.

Your advertising creates the interest. Your sales team needs qualified homeowners and scheduled opportunities.

If that describes your business, the ideas in this episode apply directly to the path your prospects travel before they ever meet with a salesperson.

Foundational Truths for Today's Local Advertisers

Here is the first foundational truth.

Advertising creates interest. It does not complete the new opportunity’s customer journey.

A magazine advertisement, television commercial, digital advertisement or direct-mail piece may give a homeowner a reason to notice your company.

But the homeowner still has questions to answer.

Can I trust this company? Does it provide what I need? Is there financing available? Can someone answer my questions? What should I do next?

The business that answers those questions clearly and quickly has an advantage.

The business that asks the homeowner to leave a message and wait or submit a form and wait creates an opening for a competitor.

That leads to the second foundational truth.

Responsiveness is now part of the product your company sells.

Homeowners are not only judging the project photos, product quality or years of experience.

They are judging how easy it is to get help and move forward.

The World No Longer Trains People to Wait

Think about how people receive answers in the rest of their lives.

When someone asks Alexa for tomorrow's weather, Alexa does not say, "Thank you for your question, I'll get back to you during normal business hours."

When someone asks Siri for directions, Siri does not place the request in a queue and promise a reply on Monday morning.

When someone searches Google, checks a bank balance, orders from Amazon or watches a movie, the answer or action is immediate.

These experiences have trained consumers to expect answers immediately.

That expectation does not disappear when they begin planning a kitchen, pool, bathroom, outdoor living area or another major home project.

They may understand that the designer, estimator or salesperson is not available at ten o'clock at night.

But, they don’t understand why the business cannot provide answers, explain the process, collect useful project information or help them choose the next step.

Twenty-four-seven responsiveness does not mean employees work all night.

It means the business must have a dependable way to respond immediately whenever customer interest appears.

Advertising Creates a Moment of Opportunity

Advertising does not automatically create revenue.

Advertising creates a moment of attention and interest.

It gives the homeowner a reason to search for your company, visit your website or call your business.

The sale still depends on what happens after that moment.

Think of your advertisement as opening a door.

If nobody is available to greet the homeowner, answer questions and guide that person toward the next step, the open door does not accomplish anything.

This is why buying more advertising is not always the answer.

If the response system behind the advertising is weak, more advertising may simply create more people who reach voicemail and hang up, find a website form and leave, then return to Google.

Before increasing the advertising budget, inspect the customer journey every new opportunity travels.

The first response from your business may happen before anyone calls or visits your website.

A homeowner sees your advertisement and searches for your company.

Your Google profile and multiple competitor’s profiles appear.

Your star rating, review count, recent reviews and company responses are sitting there in public.

Those reviews begin answering an important question: Can I trust this company with my home and my money?

BrightLocal's 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey found that 92 percent of consumers care about star ratings when choosing a business.

Sixty-eight percent said they would only use a business with four stars or more.

Thirty-one percent required at least four and a half stars.

The research also found that nearly three-quarters of consumers focus on reviews written during the previous three months.

A company may have delivered great work for twenty years. But if its review profile looks old, neglected or reviews are unanswered, the homeowner may never take the next step and call or visit your website, they just keep searching.

The business never knows the opportunity disappeared.

What looks like an advertising failure, was actually a reviews and reputation failure.

Reviews are not a side project.

They are the first response most new opportunities receive to form an opinion about doing business with your company.

Voicemail Records Interest but Does Not Advance It

Now imagine that the reviews create enough confidence for the homeowner to call.

The call comes in at 7:42 in the evening.

The homeowner wants to know whether the company serves her neighborhood, whether it handles projects like hers, how the process works and how soon someone can visit.

Voicemail cannot answer those questions.

It cannot explain the product. It cannot qualify the project. It cannot handle a concern. It cannot identify the correct salesperson. And it cannot schedule an appointment or the next step.

Voicemail can only ask the homeowner to do some busy work.

Leave your name. Leave your number. Explain what you need. Then wait for someone to call you back.

The message may say, Your call is important to us.

But the experience says, your call will be important when we reopen and are available.

Voicemail is not the end of the homeowner's search. It may simply be the beginning of their next call to your competition.

The Hidden Cost to the Sales Team

Voicemail creates another problem that is easy to overlook.

It transfers unfinished work to the sales team.

On Monday morning, salespeople begin trying to return messages.

Some callers left a complete message. Some left only a name and number. Some hung up.

Some have already spoken with another company.

The salesperson calls, but the homeowner does not recognize the calling number and doesn’t answer or the homeowner is unavailable. The salesperson leaves a message. The homeowner calls back while the salesperson is with another customer.

Now both people are playing phone tag before a real sales conversation can begin.

A skilled salesperson should spend the best part of the day speaking with qualified homeowners, understanding projects, presenting solutions and winning business.

The salesperson should not have to spend that time chasing incomplete messages created by a response system that stopped working when the office closed or staff wasn’t available.

The goal is not to replace the sales team. The goal is to prepare better opportunities for that team.

The Passive Website Gap

The homeowner may skip the voicemail and visit the website instead.

Most home improvement websites include project galleries, service pages, testimonials and videos.

But many websites are still a passive brochure.

They display information, but they cannot have a useful conversation.

A contact form does not answer a question. It sends a request for a future conversation.

A basic chatbot may offer a few buttons, ask for contact information or direct the visitor to another page.

But a homeowner considering a major project wants to ask real questions in their own words.

Do you serve my area? Do you offer this style? Can you work with an older home? Do you handle permits? Do you offer financing? What happens during the consultation? Can I visit the showroom? When can we meet?

If the website cannot respond, the homeowner is again asked to wait.

The business paid for the advertising to create the visit, but the website did not move the visitor toward the sales team.

Three Opportunity Conversion Gaps

We now have three places where advertising-generated interest can disappear without a trace.

The first is the reputation gap.

The homeowner sees weak, old or unanswered reviews and loses confidence before making contact.

The second is the phone response gap.

The homeowner calls at a busy time, during lunch or after hours, reaches voicemail and must leave a message and wait for answers or the next step.

The third is the website response gap.

The homeowner visits the website, finds pages of info, but cannot have an immediate conversation or book an appointment and the only option is to wait.

These are not separate marketing problems.

They are connected parts of the same new opportunity’s customer journey.

Advertising creates interest. Reviews and reputation build or weaken the trust needed to make contact. Phone and website responses either advance the opportunity or delay it.

What 24/7 Customer Responsive Really Means

Being 24/7 Customer Responsive does not mean promising that every problem will be solved immediately.

It means every new opportunity can receive an immediate, useful response.

A useful response answers questions.

It explains the company's process and the appropriate next step.

It gathers enough information to understand what the homeowner needs.

It determines whether the project appears to be a fit for the business.

It moves a qualified opportunity forward to a scheduled conversation or appointment with the sales team.

And when a situation requires a person, it escalates the conversation and explains what will happen next instead of leaving the homeowner wondering.

Responsiveness is not the same as availability.

Your salesperson may not be available at midnight.

But your business needs to be responsive at midnight.

Your Digital Sales Development Team Member

The most cost-effective way to create that response is with an AI Sales Development Agent.

Think of this agent as a new member of your sales team that engages with new opportunities 24/7.

It includes all the receptionist capabilities a business needs.

It answers the phone when staff is not available, speaks 10+ languages, handles multiple calls simultaneously, greets the caller, identifies the reason for the call, routes service or administrative requests and takes a message when appropriate.

But its primary responsibility is sales development. It is trained to advance an advertising-generated inquiry toward a qualified, scheduled opportunity for your sales team.

It can answer questions about products, services, service areas and the sales process.

It can ask qualification questions about the customer’s project, location, timing and other requirements.

It can respond to concerns using answers from the confidential business knowledge base.

It can identify whether the caller is ready for a consultation, estimate, showroom visit or another next step.

The SDA can book a qualified appointment, update the sales person’s calendar, immediately text the caller a confirmation and send the sales representative a summary of the conversation with access to the call recording.

It updates the CRM client record and moves the opportunity forward in the sales pipeline.

The salesperson begins with context instead of a mystery voicemail.

This digital team member handles the immediate response, early education and qualification that should happen before the human sales professional enters the sales process.

The AI Website Concierge

The Website Concierge brings the sales development conversation to the company’s website.

Instead of forcing a visitor to search through pages or submit a form and wait, the concierge engages and has a useful conversation through voice or text.

The visitor can explain their project in normal language.

The concierge answers questions, explains the process, identifies the relevant product or service and asks the same qualification questions used by the sales development agent.

If the visitor is a good fit, the concierge can book the qualified appointment, immediately text or email a confirmation, notify the sales team, provide a summary of the conversation, update the CRM client record and sales pipeline.

This creates a consistent experience.

The person who calls and the person who visits the website both receive answers based on the same confidential business knowledge base.

They hear the same qualification standards, the same approved responses and the same next steps.

The Sales Development Agent and Website Concierge are two ways the same sales development function can serve prospects around the clock.

One Shared Business Brain

Your Sales Development Agent and Website Concierge are both trained from one shared confidential knowledge base.

That knowledge base includes the products, services, service areas, project types, frequently asked questions, policies, procedures, appointment requirements and approved objection responses.

It also includes instructions about what these digital team members should never promise and when a conversation must be transferred or escalated to a person.

These digital team members never guess when they don’t know the answer.

They operate inside the rules created and approved by the business.

As the company learns from customer conversations, the knowledge base is improved.

New questions can be added. Qualification rules can be refined. Approved responses can be updated. Seasonal offers can change.

The technology supports the process, but the business controls the knowledge, rules and customer experience.

What Changes for the Human Sales Team

Now look at the experience from the sales team's point of view.

Instead of beginning the morning with voicemail messages and hang-ups, the team can receive organized conversation summaries and access to all conversation recordings, emails, texts, and social media DMs for this prospect.

The salesperson knows the homeowner's name, project type, location, timing, answers to the qualifying questions and requested next step before making contact.

The qualified prospect appointments are added to the company calendar and the sales person’s personal calendar.

That does not remove the need for talented salespeople.

It gives talented salespeople more chances to do the work they were hired to do.

They can spend less time trying to make contact and more time building relationships, understanding projects, presenting solutions and closing sales.

The AI Sales Development Agent and Website Concierge handle immediate response, receptionist duties, early education, qualification, bookings, confirmations and administrative updates and notifications.

The human team provides judgment, creativity, expertise and the personal relationship needed for a homeowner’s important decision.

The Foundational Takeaway

Here is the foundational takeaway for today's local advertisers.

Your advertising investment did its job when the marketing creates interest, a Google search, a website visit or a phone call.

And this is where the opportunity’s customer journey begins.

The homeowner will judge your reputation, your response speed, your ability to immediately answer questions and how easy it is to reach the next step of the customer journey.

The world has trained people to expect immediate answers from Alexa, Siri, Google, Amazon and nearly every digital service they use.

Your business does not need employees working around the clock.

But it does need a dependable way to respond 24/7 when new opportunity interest appears.

Before you buy more advertising, fix the customer response problem and make it easy for qualified consumers to move from interest to a scheduled conversation with your sales team.

Call to Action

Digital WorkForce 360 is developing a limited 24/7 Opportunity Conversion demonstration program.

It is designed for selected local home improvement businesses that advertise to generate new projects, have a sales team working qualified opportunities, and are currently relying on voicemail for overflow and after-hours initial sales inquiries.

The evaluation process includes a review of the company's online reputation, website experience, competitive position and current level of customer responsiveness.

Qualified businesses will be invited to watch a video program presentation and if interested a custom demonstration of the AI Sales Development Agent and the AI Website Concierge trained for their business will be created.

The demonstration will simulate appointment booking. It will not connect to or change the company's current calendar.

Each evaluation and demonstration requires company research, agent programming and testing, so capacity is limited and qualified businesses may be placed on a waiting list.
